Developmental Milestones

How do I know if my child may require developmental or behavioral services?

First talk to your pediatrician or health care provider, if you are having concerns about your child's development or behaviors.

You can also call Regional Center of the East Bay 510-383-1355 if you have concerns about your child's development around movement, speech, learning skills, social skills, or emotional development.

If you have concerns about your child's behavior in regards to anger, aggressiveness, unhappy, inability to play with other children, overly shy, recovering from a traumatic event or family crisis, please call Pete Caldwell at We Care, 925-685-0207.

Each child develops differently, but most children achieve "typical milestones" of development on a predictable pattern.

Key milestones

  • Shows understanding of words by 12 months
  • Plays peek-a-boo by 10 months
  • Walking independently by 15 months
  • Says first words by 12 months
  • Eats with a spoon by 16 month
